Balcony gardening doesn't have to be complicated.  The key to a successful balcony garden is in the design.  Too often I'm called to people's homes where I find a balcony completely cluttered with way too many pots and plants.

With balcony gardening, less is always more.  Balconies by nature are small spaces so you need to maximise every centimeter.  That means often designing the balcony garden around what materials are available.  We often start with the size of the available pots and begin our design from that point on.

Choosing plants that serve multiple purposes is another trick to ensuring you don't waste any space.  Or if you need a plain screening plant,  under-plant it with a bright coloured succulent or flowering creeper to create some interest.
